 Die Hawker Tempest war, zusammen mit der "älteren Schwester" Hawker Typhoon, der bedeutendste Englische Jagdbomber während des WK 2. Im Wesentlichen unterschied sie sich von letzterer durch eine elliptische Tragfläche dünnen Profils und ein größeres Leitwerk. Um die Tempest Mk V zu verbessern, waren folgende Arbeiten nötig: Das war diesmal eine der leichteren Übungen. Der Academy-Bausatz ist nahezu perfekt. Paßgenauigkeit vorbildlich, das Ausmaß an Details ebenfalls, bloß eine Betätigunsstrebe des Fahrwerks fehlt. Die hab ich dann halt slbst ergänzt. Und dazu gleich noch die Bremsleitungen. Im Cockpit habe ich nur die Sitzgurten ergänzt und rechts und links ein paar Hebel und Leitungen zugefügt. Das Armaturenbrett ließ ich wie es ist. Den sehr fein gestaltetn Kühler habe ich nur farblich hervorgehoben. Die Kühlerklappe habe ich aus Metallfolie gemacht. Als besondere Attraktion hatte ich vor, im rechten Flügel den Waffenschacht zu öffen. Die weißen Sechskantringe entfernte ich wieder, die waren falsch. Spanten und Rippen habe ich aus Papier gemacht. Die Abdeckungen ersetzte ich durch selbstgemachte aus Metallfolie. Die Kanonen entstanden ebenfalls im Eigenbau aus Plastik und Kanülen, die Munitionsbehälter habe ich aus Metallfolie geformt. Und ich meine, das Ergebnis kann sich sehen lassen. Die Positionslichter wurden aus klarem Gußast gemacht. Abschließend beschloß ich, die Schiebehaube selbst herzustellen, um einen tadellosen Einblick ins Cockpit zu gewähren. Es stellte sich aber heraus, daß auch die selbstgezogene, sehr dünne Kanzel, durch ihre Wölbung noch verzerrt. Die Abziehbilder gaben Anlaß zur Kritik, sie haften nicht besonders gut, damit hatte ich meine liebe Not. Außerdem liegen sie nur in der Nachkriegsvariante bei, also mit weißen Ringen in den Kokarden der Tragflächenoberseiten. Da ich Clostermanns Maschine aber noch im Kampfeinsatz zeigen wollte, habe ich die umgespritzt. |
 The Hawker Tempest was, together with it's "elder sister" Hawker Typhoon, the most important british Fighter-Bomber during the W W 2. The substantial difference between these two aircrafts were the elliptical wing with a thinner profile and a taller fin of the Tempest. To optimize the Tempest Mk V, following works were necessary: This time it was really an easy job to do. This Academy-kit is truly ideal. The fitting is exemplary, also is the quality of details, but in an astonishing matter there is a lack of one undercarriage's actuating rod. I had to ad this by a scratchbuilt one. And added the brake-pipes, too. I added seat-belts to the cockpit and some pipes and levers to the right and left sidewalls. The instrument panel was glued into the cockpit as it was. The very fine detailed radiator got an attractive coloring. I scratchbuilt the ventral cooling-flap of metal-foil. To show the detailed open gunbay in the right wing, was my idea of a certain attraction. I had to delete those white hexagonal rings, they were definetely wrong. Spars and ribs were cut out of paper. I replaced the covers by self-made ones, built of metal-foil. The cannons are scratchbuilt too, of plastic sticks and tubules, and I also formed the ammunition-boxes with metal-foil. And the result is truly not bad at all. The position-lamps were made of clear sprue. Finally I decided, to build the sliding-hood by myself, in order to ensure a blameless view into the cockpit. But, as it placed out, this even very thin, self-made vacu canopy, is distorting the view by its curvature as a real one. I have to critizise the decals, they were not adhering well, this was a little troublesome. They also show the variant in colors of the post-war-time, with the white ring in the roundel on the upper wings. I wanted to show Clostermann's aircraft being in active service, so I had to adjust these roundels by airbrush. |
