Die Messerschmitt Bf 209 V-4 war einzig und allein zu dem Zweck gebaut worden, den Geschwindigkeitsweltrekord dieser Flugzeugklasse für Deutschland zu holen. Was auch gelang. Bei diesem kuriosen Flugzeug ging es mir nur ums Erscheinungsbild. Daher habe ich es ohne viele Verbesserungen aus der Schachtel heraus gebaut. Die Maße stimmen, die Paßgenauigkeit auch. Und viele Fehler kann man bei diesen wenigen Teilen ohnehin nicht machen. Aus Propagandazwecken hieß das Flugzeug damals allerdings Bf 109 R (wie Rennflugzeug), damit alle Welt glauben sollte, es sei eine aufgemöbelte Bf 109. War es aber nicht. Die Renn-V4 hatte außerdem verkürzte Tragflächen. So wie sie hier steht, mit zwei MG in der Schnauze und langer Spannweite, wurde sie ebenfalls nur zu Propagandazwecken aufbereitet, fotografiert und hergezeigt.

The Messerschmitt Bf 209 V-4 was built for only one reason, to take the speed-championship in its class to Großdeutschland (Germany). And this intention succeeded. This curious aircraft impressed me by its outer view. Therefore I had no interest in detailing, but built it just out of the box. The measures are O.K., the fitting is rather well. Caused by the fact, that there are only few parts in the box, the possibility of making mistakes is low. Due to propaganda-reasons, the aircraft was named Bf 109 R (like racing-aircraft), so the whole world should believe it to be a racing-version of a simple Bf 109. But it was not. The Racing-V4 was built with short wings, anyway. With two guns in the nose and it's long span, as presented here, this aircraft was only prepared, shown around and given the possibilty to take pictures, due to propaganda reasons.
