Zur Messerschmitt Bf 109 E brauche ich hier wohl nicht viel zu sagen ... außer, daß die frühen versionen E-1 die schwerstbewaffneten hätten sein sollen. Mit fünf MG oder zwei MG, zwei MG FF 20mm in den Tragflächen und einer MG FF 20mm Motorkanone, war die Idee ganz gut, lediglich die Praxis erwies, daß die Motorkanone das zusätzliche Gewicht nicht durch höhere Abschußzahlen rechtfertigen konnte. So wurde die Motorkanone meist wieder ausgebaut. Um aus dem Bausatz der Bf E-3/4 eine E-1 zu machen, bedarf es keiner großen Anstrengungen, man muß lediglich die richtige Haube verwenden. Allerdings ... ist dieser Bausatz einer der übelsten, der mir untergekommen ist. Die Maße und Proportionen sind ja noch recht gut gelungen, auch das Cockpit ist toll wiedergegeben, aber ... ... all die deutlich sichtbaren Schlitze der Motorhaube fehlten ... die Halterung der Sitzgurten ist schlichtweg falsch (dies zu korrigieren hätte mehr Aufwand bedeutet, als es Wert wäre) ... ebenso falsch ist die Form der Kühler-Auslässe unter dem Innenflügel ... die Form der Auspuffe ist erbärmlich falsch; das was nach hinten zeigen soll, nämlich die kleinen Flächen, weisen nach vorne ... die Rumpf MG's sind gleich lang, wo doch jeder Anfänger weiß, daß die 109 E das linke MG nach vorne versetzt hatten, wegen des begrenzten Platzes in der Motorhaube. Ich verbesserte lediglich die Kühler-Vorderseiten, fügte ein Visier hinzu, schnitt die Vorflügel aus und konzentrierte mich auf das äußere Erscheinungsbild. Kennung und Codes sind teils aus der Grabbelkiste, teils selbst gemacht.

I think, I will not have to tell rather muach about the Messerschmitt Bf 109 E here ... except, that the variant E-1 ought to be the one with the heaviest armament. The idea of five guns, better two guns, two KG FF 20mm in the wings and one MG FF 20mm gun fiting through the propeller-spinner, was rather goog, but the practice taught, that the fifth gun additional weight could not be justified by higher numbers of voctories. So this gun became deleted for the most part. To rebuild the academy kit's Bf 109 E-3/4 into an E-1, there is not much effort required, you just have to use the correct canopy. Indeed ... this kit is one of the most malady ones, I ever held in hands. Measures and proportions are rather well done, and the cockpit-interior is well done, too, but ... ... all the prominent slots in the 109's cowling were missing ... the attachment of the belt is simply wrong (but to rectify this would be more work than it's worth) ... as are the shapes of the water-coolers' outlets beneath the inner wings ... the shape of the exhaust-pipes is wrong too, the small area, what shall be the outlet-opening, opens to the front, instead to the rear ... the nose-guns are made in equal length, but the original 109 E's had all the left gun mounted a little bit ahead, caused by the limited space of the cowling. So I merely optimized the cooler-font-sides, added a gun-sight, did cut out the prominent wings' noses and concentrated my efforts to the outer view of this kit. Markings and codes are partially self-made and partially out of the spare-box.
